How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks Naturally

Over the years several products have emerged that are centered on the elimination of stretch marks. These products have prices ranging from an affordable amount to thousands of dollars. However, have you ever pondered about the causes of this stretch marks on your body?

What causes stretch marks on the body?

As their name implies, they are caused when there is a sudden stretching of the dermal layer of the skin such as during pregnancy. They are usually located on the abdomen, buttocks thighs, and shoulders. There are mainly two reasons why you get stretch marks.

Physical factors

When you take a closer look at the physical manifestation of stretch marks, what you will notice is that they are mostly seen in regions of the body that are subject to swift increase in size. And because the dermal layer is stretched, it appears cracked and turn. This accounts for why stretch marks are seen during pregnancy. It also results when your weight fluctuates, you can see them on people who work out, due to muscle mass development.
Pregnant women get these stretch marks due to weight gain, that is why some expectant moms consider reducing their food consumption, however, taking this to the extreme can affect you and your unborn child.

Hormonal factors

As suggested from studies, stretch marks can result due to hormonal changes. The hormonal imbalance that takes place during pregnancy and puberty hampers the production of elastin and collagen, which makes the skin to lose its elasticity, allowing it to tear.

During puberty, stretch marks can manifest and when a fast growth occur. Your body is not used to the sudden or fast increase in your height so, the skin gets stretched out beyond normal.
Besides the physical and hormonal factors, another lesser risk factor of stretch marks is Cushing’s syndrome. This syndrome results in weight gain and skin thinning which leads to the formation of reddish-purple stretch marks.

Stretch marks are of two types

Red stretch marks this occurs when the dermal layer of the skin is stretched thereby allowing the blood vessels in the layer below to show through.
White stretch marks This results when the dermal layer is stretched exposing the fat beneath, this explains why they have a silvery white appearance.

Natural methods of reducing stretch marks

There are numerous remedies out there for stretch marks that have proved abortive even though it is expensive. The stretch marks on your body can naturally go away with time, however, if you are looking for a faster way to get rid of it, below are some natural methods you can use.

Lemon juice

Lemon juice is well known for its bleaching and whitening properties but it can also help in boosting the amount of collagen produced by the skin due to its high vitamin content.
How to apply: squeeze a large amount of lemon into a bowl, then with a cotton wool apply on stretch marks affected areas. Allow for about 15 to 20 minutes then wash with cold water.

Egg whites

The protein and amino acid content of egg white can help your skin heal, brightening the appearance of stretch mark.
How to apply:  whip two egg whites until it turns paste like. Apply this paste on the stretch marks then allow it to dry. Wash off with Luke warm water. Repeat once weekly.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a well know plant due to its herbal applications such as for skin, as a moisturizer etc. it is known for its anti-inflammatory effect. With a constant application, it can make these stretch marks less visible.

How to apply: get a fresh Aloe Vera gel then apply directly on the stretch marks and watch them lighten.
